Don Sharp
When I reflect on what made me the person I am today; it can be difficult to nail down just one event or turning point in my life. I am a hard-working optimist like my father with a healthy dose of realism from my mother. I pride myself in keeping calm during stressful situations as I try my best to think clearly even when chaos is abounding. I work tirelessly to achieve my goals, no matter what trials stand in the way.
But who is Don Sharp really? The thought takes me back to my first day in college. I was a freshman at Chico State University with a full load of credits on my plate. Everything seemed to start off well, until I got to my statistics class. The professor began our lesson with the actual statistic of each students’ chances of graduating college. When he got to me, I was crushed. He asked about my background and whether my parents finished high school, then he concluded that my chances of graduating were slim to none. I was furious! What did this man know about me? Sure, my parents never finished school, but they found their own successes in life and sacrificed constantly to provide for their family. What did that have to do with my own capabilities? From that moment on, I decided to do whatever it was going to take to reach my goals. I didn’t want to become a statistic, I wanted more!
After that first year at Chico State, I decided to transfer to less of a party school. I was suddenly hyper aware of the environment that surrounded me, and I wanted to ensure that I put myself in a position to achieve my goal of graduation. Just a few years later, I did achieve my goal and graduated from Sacramento State University with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Real Estate Land Use. Three days later, I began working in the mortgage industry and found my passion for real estate. After receiving my Salespersons license in 1978 and Brokers license 1979, I went on to lead a fulfilling career serving the great people in this community. Nothing makes me happier than to help my clients achieve their own goals, just like I achieved mine.
Byron MacConnell
I grew up all over California in an average, middle-class family. We moved around this great state several times, San Diego to Yuba City, then Stockton and Woodland. My father was a hard-working man. He was a World War II veteran who later worked for the Boy Scouts of America professionally. My mother stayed home with my sister and I while remaining actively involved in the community my entire childhood. She was always volunteering with our school and other non-profit programs; devoting herself to the betterment of others. Growing up in a house like that undoubtedly plays a role in the man that I am today. Both of my parents instilled a strong work ethic in me.
Finding success in my own life was always something I desired. Growing up in the scouting program really helped navigate the hardships in my life. I learned early on that I needed to be part of the solution when things start to get hard. As a teenager, I went on to become an Eagle Scout (the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America). No one forced me to accomplish that goal and it took a lot of hard work to make it happen.
As an adult, I’ve done my best to utilize the experiences in my life to better myself. After working for 34 years in title insurance and 10 years as a senior land consultant, I realized that it was time for a change of pace. Through Don’s encouragement, I decided to pursue my real estate license and haven’t looked back since. Don and I met nearly 40 years ago when he sold my wife and I our first home. We quickly sparked a lasting friendship and have enjoyed annual camping trips as a way to recharge and enjoy the great outdoors.
In 2015, he sparked a change of events that would lead us to develop The Sharp and MacConnell Real Estate Team. Now, I am in an industry that constantly pushes me to be better and allows me to help clients find success in their real estate journeys.

I was born in San Diego, Ca. where my father was in the Navy practicing Dentistry before starting his own private practice. Soon after, my family relocated to Paradise, California where we lived until I was 14. From there, my family moved to Woodland. I have resided there ever since.
My first true passion is golf. I began my 30 year golf career right out of High School. I began in outside services, picking up range balls and taking care of member’s golf carts and golf clubs. From there, I turned Professional and started a long career with titles ranging from Assistant Professional, to Head Professional and General Manager.
In 2019 I was offered the opportunity to join the Sharp & MacConnell team. The real estate business has truly been life changing. I have always been a person who likes to help others and this career fits me perfectly. I have the opportunity to work with a wonderful team and make people’s dreams come true whether they are purchasing or selling a home.
The best part of our Sharp & MacConnell team, under the RE/MAX umbrella, is having the opportunity to help clients with all facets of real estate including residential, land, commercial and lease opportunities.
While the Real Estate business keeps me very busy, I still find time to teach golf which is a true passion of mine.
